Each request is considered individually and then collectively with the other requests coming from the same community. All requests need to respect the following criteria:
  • The key players have identified projects the volunteers will work on.
  • The work will provide a positive and stimulating experience for the volunteers.
  • A sufficient number of organizations or projects exist in the community to ensure work for the 11 volunteers.
  • The work will allow the volunteers to acquire personal and professional skills.
  • The nature of the work is diversified.
  • The organization’s staff is available to supervise the volunteers.
  • Appropriate safety measures are in place at the workplace.
  • The community provides support for the proposed projects.
  • The tasks assigned to volunteers do not take work away from the local workforce.
  • There is provision for housing a group of 12 people in the community.
  • Medical and educational resources are present in the region.
  • Projects the volunteers work on must be consistent with Katimavik areas of impact.

Please note that the Katimavik program remains present in the community as long as the partnership continues to be beneficial to the partner organizations, the volunteers and Katimavik.
