Become host family
Open your home to a Katimavik volunteer and discover Canada without leaving your living room. Is your family interested in hosting an active Katimavik volunteer in your community? Here is your chance to get to know a young person between the ages of 17 to 21 from another region of Canada.
As part of Katimavik’s service-learning program, volunteers live for a short length of time with a family in their host community to better learn the regional culture and lifestyle. For both the volunteers and host families, it is a great opportunity for cultural discovery. For some volunteers, this turns out to be a full-fledged linguistic immersion.
In opening your home to a Katimavik volunteer, you are making a precious contribution to our organization. In return for your generosity, each family receives a stipend of $10 per day to host a volunteer.
If you wish to take part in Katimavik’s billeting experience, please check to see if a Katimavik group is in your community. If so, fill in the host family application form. A Katimavik project leader or project coordinator will then get in touch with you to inform you of the dates and other details. You can also get in touch with the Katimavik regional office (link) serving your province.
