Activities

Eco-Internship is a self-directed learning through service program based on three objectives :

Environmental stewardship

Eco-Internship trains our future environmental leaders. After completing the program, eco-interns have a better understanding of their ecological duty and are ready to take on greater responsibilities for their environment.

Complete an internship in environment and sustainability

Based on their academic background, experience and career goals, interns are placed with an appropriate not-for-profit, public or parapublic organization. Together, they develop goals for the internship that best meet their respective needs and interests. Interns usually work about 30 hours a week on the project.

For their project, interns will carry out tasks such as:

  • Collecting field data
  • Laboratory analysis
  • Data interpretation
  • Writing reports
  • Mailing and sending information
  • Acting as an organizational representative
  • Organizing, supporting and leading educational and awareness-raising activities
  • Preparing a communication plan
  • Putting together an environmental guide
  • Organizing consultations and discussions with citizens and local stakeholders
  • Conducting a study on local transportation to reduce greenhouse gases
  • Helping with project implementation and development
  • Finding eco-friendly partners and suppliers
  • Participating in event organization (conferences, assemblies and seminars)
  • Managing a team of volunteers

Implement an environmental collective community project

During the program, a team of interns plans and carries out an environmental project for their host community. The project is developed with the help of community members to ensure that it meets their needs. This process forges strong ties between interns and their host community. Interns act as responsible eco-citizens and apply their competencies. As leaders of the collective community, interns dedicate an average of 10 to 15 hours a week to project-related tasks.

The collective community project gives interns the chance to:

  • Positively impact the community
  • Apply eco-citizenship principles
  • Tackle Quebec’s regional environmental issues
  • Discuss and make the most of team members’ competencies
  • Develop project management and teamwork skills
  • Make contacts and build a professional network
  • Get inspired by social activism and their colleagues’ ideas
