Alumni tell their stories... After Katimavik, I plan on heading to Lethbridge Community College for two years in Correctional Studies. I am confident that I will be able to achieve my goals by using my leadership and languages skills that I have developed in the past nine months.

Katimavik has taught me that working together is the key thing to get anything done in life. If you don’t work together, nothing will work.

I’ve learnt to combine self-actualization with an ethical responsibility to my community, my family and the environment. I’ve developed a moral outlook and learnt how to express it in action. I would describe Katimavik as a crucial form of active education for young people. This is combined with a vital role in community building and volunteerism.
SIMON VALLEAU, 1980-1981 participant, Ontario
I think it’s important to always be aware of what our impact is, even it’s small things like riding a bicycle or walking to places, and turning off the car whenever you go inside. We live on this planet, so we need to conserve it and always be aware of our consumption.
LORNA JOHNSTON, 2006-2007 project leader
Katimavik has changed me a lot. I have learned to cook and clean for 10 people, I have gained a lot of work experience, met new friends from coast to coast, learned a new language and, most importantly, experienced Canada first-hand.
GREGORY COWAN, 2005-2006 participant, British Columbia
Katimavik offered me the opportunity to meet and live with people of different cultures, religions and political beliefs from across Canada. I gained an enormous appreciation and respect for our differences and similarities.
CHRIS HUDSON-BRADING, 1979-1980 participant, New Brunswick
I have worked in many environments over the years as a manager. Based on my experiences with Katimavik, I have been able to understand how conflict resolution can be successful.
JOANNE MCGUIRE, 1979-1980 participant, Ontario
I picked up a lot of job skills with Katimavik. I have a clear direction now on what I want to do with my life and developed confidence, leadership skills and maturity. It’s been a wonderful experience.
