Be a part of it

Get involved!

Katimavik will be an intense, life-changing adventure for your teen. It is normal that he or she may be nervous about participating or about leaving home for the first time. Indeed, maybe it will be you the parent who will be apprehensive about your child leaving the nest.

We encourage parents to get involved in order to facilitate the transition for both you and your teen. Here are a few things you may want to do to prepare your child for Katimavik:

Speak with your teen about what he or she expects to
learn on the program, about their hopes and fears for
the coming months and what they hope to accomplish
    while on Katimavik.

Tell them about similar experiences you have had
travelling or working when you were their age. Maybe
you participated in a similar program?

Get a sense of where your child will be living by doing
some research about the local history and culture of
the three communities where your teen will live
                                                         during Katimavik.
