Because Katimavik leads to success! Katimavik is an opportunity for your teen to participate in a structured, time-proven program that will enable them to explore career options, gain valuable life experience and challenge themselves in ways a traditional class room setting cannot. Give your teen the opportunity to position him or herself for success! Data shows that a well thought-out gap or interim year after high-school helps young people do better in their future academic/vocational careers while preparing them to achieve their overall personal goals. The Katimavik program provides youth with an extra year to mature, see Canada, learn about themselves and to gain a better sense of what they want out of life. Canadian higher learning institutions, including Dalhousie and McGill, support the idea of a gap year as they allow admitted prospective students to defer to the following academic year should they chose to take an interim year! In the United States, Harvard University has been recommending a gap year in its admission letter for almost 30 years. If your teen is ready to go forward but is not fully convinced of what career path or study program to embark on, or if he or she is looking for a life-changing, educational and productive experience then be sure to point him/her to Registration section. The Adventure of a lifetime! Katimavik offers young Canadians between the ages of 17 and 21 the opportunity to experience an exciting nine month adventure of self-discovery through community involvement, training and group life. While on the program, participants live with 10 youth and a project leader in three different regions of Canada. By becoming a participant in Canada's leading national youth volunteer-service program, as 30,0000 other Canadians have done over the past 30 years, students gain hands-on work experience, increase their self confidence, define their academic and professional objectives, develop their sense of civic responsibility, acquire leadership skills and discover Canada! Katimavik participants also benefit from a learning program that focuses on leadership, official languages, the environment, cultural discovery and a healthy lifestyle. All travel and living expenses are paid for and participants receive a $1000.00 bursary upon completion of the program. Don’t wait! Have your teen fill-out the online registration form We are not the only ones that firmly believe that national volunteer youth service provides young Canadians with a myriad of benefits! More than nine in ten Canadians agree with the idea that volunteerism is a positive way of expanding citizen involvement (94 per cent), and that helping community-based non-profit organizations provide structured volunteer opportunities for youth would enable them to gain valuable skills and experience (93 per cent)!
