On July 2, nine Katimavik alumni were invited to represent the program at an official reception given by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. The event, held in honour of Quebec City’s 400th anniversary, took place at the Governor General’s residence in Quebec City’s citadel.
Her Excellency spoke of the vital role that youth and community organizations play in Canadian society. She also emphasized the importance of the French language in Québec, Canada and North America, while praising the language’s beauty and richness.
The group of past participants who attended the reception had the chance to speak with public figures representing a number of different programs across Quebec and Canada. A variety of musical and dance performances made the festivities even more delightful.
In the end the nine alumni who attended the event enjoyed a memorable evening in the company of Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean, and were honoured to celebrate Quebec City’s 400th anniversary along side her.
