Montreal, April 7, 2008 – Jean-Guy Bigeau, Katimavik’s executive director, together with Ms. Line Beauchamp, minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, and Mr. Toni Tomassi, parliamentary assistant to the Premier, proudly announced the launch of Eco-Internship, a new environmental initiative offered by Katimavik Youth Services in collaboration with the Government of Quebec.
Environmental experts, students, and the media gathered at Montreal’s Biosphere to hear the details of this exciting new program that will give approximately 100 participants from across Quebec the opportunity to take part in a dynamic six-month internship. The participants will embark on an intensive career-building and life-changing adventure in various regions of Quebec, where they will volunteer for public, semi-public and non-profit organizations that work toward environmental protection and sustainable development.
“This is a marvellous opportunity for students to put their knowledge of environmental issues to practical use,” says Jean-Guy Bigeau. “We are very happy that the Government of Quebec has become a partner in such an important undertaking. Québec is the forerunner in this project which we hope to eventually make this a Canade-wide initiative.”
Groups will be comprised of CEGEP graduates and university students who have focused their studies on environmental issues. The first internship is scheduled to begin in June 2008.
