Located in northern Ontario, west of Kapuskasing, Hearst is the furthest northern town accessible by car. Towns north of Hearst must be reached via helicopter or plane. Hearst is one of Ontario’s major Franco-Ontarian towns, 96% of the population being francophone. Several cultures make up this dynamic and warm community for a total population of 6,049 inhabitants. Forestry is the primary industry, with both mills and tree planting organizations. Hearst offers a variety of year-round activities, from snowmobiling and cross-country skiing to swimming and canoeing. The self-proclaimed “Moose Capital of Canada”, the Hearst area is a hunter’s paradise. Not to be missed, a double life-size statue of moose and wolves at the Hearst Welcome Centre.
