The city of Courtenay is located in the Comox Valley along the Courtenay River in the heart of the island's most beautiful farmland. Courtenay is a bustling metropolis with galleries, theatres, shops and restaurants. Courtenay, named after a British sea captain, has a rich heritage and has prospered through farming, logging and fishing. The city offers the best of both worlds: ocean adventures and mountain retreats. A special summer attraction is the Courtenay Youth Music Centre, known throughout North America as Canada's summer community of musicians. With a population of 18,304, Courtenay is the urban and cultural hub of the Comox Valley. The Courtenay Museum located in the heart of town has received the Best of British Columbia Award and is a great place to learn about science and the natural environment that surrounds Courtenay.
